BEYOND THE NUMBERS
In Case You Missed It...
This week at CBPP, we focused on health, state budgets and taxes, housing, the economy, poverty and inequality, food assistance, and federal taxes.
- On health, Hannah Katch and Paul N. Van de Water detailed why Medicaid and Medicare enrollees need dental, vision, and hearing benefits. Tara Straw wrote on a proposed Trump Administration rule that threatens coverage of HealthCare.gov enrollees. Matt Broaddus outlined how to accurately evaluate this year’s health care marketplace sign-ups.
- On state budgets and taxes, Wesley Tharpe, Michael Leachman, and Matt Saenz discussed how states can unlock the innovative potential of historically excluded groups to grow more prosperous and equitable. Tharpe also summarized the report’s findings and recommendations. Samantha Waxman and Elizabeth McNichol demonstrated how improved state taxes on wealth and high incomes can help fuel an equitable economic recovery.
- On housing, Erik Gartland addressed the nearing wave of evictions as the federal eviction moratorium is set to expire soon. Sonya Acosta noted that preventing a spike in evictions will help limit COVID-19’s spread.
- On the economy, we updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are available and our chartbook tracking the post-Great Recession economy.
- On poverty and inequality, we updated our tracker of the COVID-19 recession’s effects on food, housing, and employment hardships.
- On food assistance, we updated our fact sheet explaining how states are using new flexibility in SNAP to respond to COVID-19 challenges. We posted Spanish-language versions of blog posts on Puerto Rico’s Nutrition Assistance Program here and here.
- On federal taxes, we updated our backgrounder on federal tax expenditures.
