As climate change damages the health, homes, and communities of those who can least afford to endure crises, it sets back the advances we’ve made to build shared prosperity and demands more of stretched state budgets. These impacts fall hardest on low-income communities and communities of color where, due to historic and continuing discrimination, residents are less likely to have the resources to prepare for and recover from climate impacts and state governments are less likely to prioritize investment.
We work with national and state partners to direct the benefits of federal climate tax credits, loans, and grants to low-income communities and communities of color; guide advocates to influence state climate change investments; and work with national partners to leverage the tax code for climate justice. This work builds on our previous research and advocacy to ensure equity in carbon pricing policies.
