On the new Census data, CBPP President Sharon Parrott released a statement on how government policies helped drive the child poverty rate to a record low and cut the uninsured rate. Gideon Lukens highlighted how the 8.6 percent uninsured rate matches a record low in 2021. On health, Allison Orris explained how a newly proposed rule would help kids, seniors, and others get and stay enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP. Lukens noted that Montana’s fiscal gains from Medicaid expansion are a model for Wyoming. On food assistance, Katie Bergh noted how new food insecurity data highlight the need for a permanent summer EBT program. On Social Security, Kathleen Romig explained how the Social Security Administration needs a funding boost in the continuing resolution to avoid a customer service crisis. On state budgets and taxes, Ed Lazere and Iris Hinh updated their report on how states can best use their federal Fiscal Recovery Funds. On the economy, we updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are currently available. We also updated our chart book tracking the recovery from the pandemic recession.
