July 30, 2021, 3:46 pm | By CBPP This week at CBPP, we focused on health, federal tax, state budgets and taxes, poverty and inequality, and the economy. On health, Judith Solomon testified before a House committee on how the latest Medicaid funding cliff highlights the need for funding parity for U.S. territories. Solomon also illustrated how closing the coverage gap would improve Black maternal health. On federal tax, Kris Cox, Roxy Caines, Arloc Sherman, and Dottie Rosenbaum discussed the state and local Child Tax Credit outreach needed to help lift hardest-to-reach children out of poverty. On state budgets and taxes, Cortney Sanders explained how state juvenile justice reforms can boost opportunity, particularly for communities of color, and summarized the findings in a brief. On poverty and inequality, we updated our tracker on the COVID-19 recession’s effects on food, housing, and employment hardships. On the economy, we updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are available.
