On state budgets and taxes, Cortney Sanders and Coty Novak stressed that Kentucky’s proposals to cut taxes and public benefit programs would weigh heavily on families, especially low-income households and communities of color. Bernie Gallagher maintained that Kansas, and other states, should reject harmful tax and spending limits. Iris Hinh pointed out that states must address K-12 unfinished learning for an equitable recovery. On federal taxes, Javier Balmaceda explained that tax credit expansions are expected to significantly reduce poverty in Puerto Rico. On food assistance, Joseph Llobrera noted that a recent update to the Thrifty Food Plan helps millions of families add healthier foods to their diet.
