On the economy, CBPP President Sharon Parrott released a statement on why the Senate budget plan points the way toward a more equitable nation. We also updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are available, and our chart book tracking the post-Great Recession economy. On state budgets and taxes, Samantha Waxman emphasized how a record number of states have created or improved earned income tax credits to respond to COVID-19. On poverty and inequality, Matt Saenz highlighted how economic programs significantly reduce poverty in every state. We also updated our tracker on the COVID-19 recession’s effects on food, housing, and employment hardships. On food assistance, we illustrated how modernizing SNAP benefits would help millions of people better afford healthy food. We updated our fact sheet on how states are using much-needed temporary flexibility in SNAP to respond to COVID-19 challenges.
