In Case You Missed It...
This week at CBPP, we focused on food assistance, health, the economy, and the federal budget and taxes.
- On food assistance, Luis Nuñez and Katie Bergh calculated that the Trump Administration was planning to release less than the SNAP funding it committed to partially cover November benefits, which would lead to deep benefits cuts for low-income households. We updated state-by-state fact sheets on the Community Eligibility Provision in partnership with the Food Research and Action Center.
- On health, Jennifer Wagner, Symonne Singleton, and Maani Stewart described how effective state policy and implementation of Medicaid’s new work requirement, included in the harmful Republican megabill, can reduce coverage losses. Gideon Lukens and Elizabeth Zhang updated their report on anticipated health insurance premium spikes as tax credit enhancements are set to expire. We also posted state-by-state graphics illustrating the effect of rising premiums on sample families. We updated our Introduction to Medicaid.
- On the economy, Gbenga Ajilore underscored that the U.S. economy has weakened relative to last year, and the Administration has drastically cut the economic support system.
- On the federal budget and taxes, Josephine Cureton detailed how reductions in force and shutdown furloughs at the IRS will threaten its ability to adequately serve taxpayers. Malik Woullard pointed out that 800,000 children in veteran families are left out of the full Child Tax Credit. Cristin Dorgelo, Kathleen Romig, Nia Law, and Devin O'Connor noted that the Trump Administration’s removal of inspectors general undercuts independent agency oversight and hurts taxpayers and beneficiaries.
