In Case You Missed It...

This week at CBPP, we focused on federal taxes, climate change, health, and the economy.

• On federal taxes, Chuck Marr and Samantha Jacoby explained that with many of the 2017 Trump tax cuts expiring at the end of 2025, Congress should course correct the nation’s revenue policies, in part by ending tax cuts for people making more than $400,000 on schedule and raising revenue by taxing wealthy individuals and profitable corporations.
• On climate change, Rachel Jacobson and Samantha Jacoby urged state policymakers to act to ensure that the benefits of tax credits for clean energy investments, known as direct pay tax credits, flow to residents of low-income and marginalized communities.
• On health, Laura Harker and Kaylin Hewitt highlighted how new federal rules present an opportunity for state advocates to help ensure the voices of Medicaid enrollees are centered in policy decisions. Claire Heyison and Amy Killelea quoted Affordable Care Act marketplace enrollees on the positive impact expanded tax credits have had in helping them pay for their premiums and stressed the need for congressional action to keep the expanded credits from expiring at the end of 2025. We also updated our resource tracking states’ unwinding from Medicaid continuous coverage.
• On the economy, we updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment insurance are available per state.
