This week at CBPP, we focused on the federal budget, food assistance, income security, Social Security, and health.
- On the federal budget, CBPP President Sharon Parrott released a statement on the debt ceiling agreement, explaining that while it reflects improvements over the previous House bill, harmful provisions remain.
- On food assistance, Katie Bergh and Dottie Rosenbaum outlined how the debt ceiling agreement’s changes to SNAP will increase hunger and poverty for many older low-income people, and that new exemptions will help some others.
- On income security, LaDonna Pavetti described the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program provisions in the debt ceiling agreement.
- On Social Security, Kathleen Romig explained that Social Security lifts more people above the poverty line than any other program.
- On health, we updated our resource tracking states’ unwinding from Medicaid continuous coverage.
