This week at CBPP, we focused on the federal budget, federal taxes, and food assistance.
- On the federal budget, Richard Kogan, David Reich, and Nick Kasprak released an interactive showing how House Republicans’ harsh funding caps would affect different, vital programs. We also updated our roundup of analyses on House Republicans’ harmful debt-ceiling-and-cuts bill.
- On federal taxes, Samantha Jacoby testified before the Senate Committee on the Budget on the need for a new course after decades of costly, regressive, and ineffective tax cuts.
- On food assistance, Katie Bergh and Zoë Neuberger explained how House Republicans’ agriculture appropriations bill would cut WIC benefits for 5 million participants and put SNAP benefits at risk for 1 million older adults. Joseph Llobrera pointed out that most working-age SNAP participants work, but job instability overstates joblessness in some analyses.
