This week at CBPP, we focused on health, housing, food assistance, the economy, and poverty and inequality.
- On health, Gideon Lukens and Breanna Sharer explained how closing the Medicaid coverage gap would help a diverse group and narrow racial disparities. Alex Berger illustrated how President Biden’s American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan present a unique opportunity to improve the re-entry system for incarcerated people. Javier Balmaceda emphasized that President Biden’s 2022 budget would give residents of U.S. territories equal access to critical safety net programs.
- On housing, Ann Oliva testified before the House Financial Services Committee on why expanding Housing Choice Vouchers is essential to ending homelessness.
- On food assistance, Zoë Neuberger and Jess Maneely detailed how targeted text message outreach can increase WIC enrollment.
- On the economy, we updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are available. We also updated our chart book tracking the post-Great Recession economy.
- On poverty and inequality, we updated our fact sheet tracking the COVID-19 recession’s effects on food, housing, and employment hardship.
