This week at CBPP, we focused on health, family income support, food assistance, housing, poverty and inequality, and the economy.
- On health, Tara Straw explained that the American Rescue Plan’s lower premiums and the Biden Administration’s enrollment period extension will boost enrollment in the Affordable Care Act marketplaces. Gideon Lukens detailed how the American Rescue Plan will help millions who still face reduced access to medical care. We released a fact sheet summarizing coverage for COVID-19 testing, vaccinations, and treatment.
- On family income support, Laura Meyer reported that subsidized employment is a proven strategy to aid an equitable economic recovery, and shared an expert’s take on using subsidized jobs to meet health and employment goals in the pandemic. We updated our backgrounder on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
- On food assistance, Ed Bolen discussed the Agriculture Department’s decision to end the Trump Administration’s push to cut jobless workers off SNAP. Dottie Rosenbaum, Zoë Neuberger, Brynne Keith-Jennings, and Catlin Nchako updated their report showing that the food assistance provisions in the American Rescue Plan will reduce hardship and provide economic stimulus.
- On housing, Douglas Rice argued that solving urgent housing problems requires pairing investments in housing stock with expansion of housing vouchers.
- On poverty and inequality, we updated our fact sheet tracking the COVID-19 recession’s effects on food, housing, and employment hardships.
- On the economy, we updated our chart book tracking the post-Great Recession economy and our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are available.
