CBPP Announces New Roles on Leadership Team
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) announced today the promotion of two exceptional leaders to new roles: Shannon Buckingham as Executive Vice President for Communications and External Affairs and Michele Vaughn as Vice President for Communications.
In her new role, Buckingham will lead CBPP’s internal and external communications strategies to shape the public debate across a range of domestic policy issues. She will also continue to serve as an advisor to the Center’s president on strategic policy and communications issues, as well as on organizational management.
“Shannon brings to this new role a focused vision for communications and storytelling,” said Sharon Parrott, CBPP’s President. “Her proven ability to develop effective messaging, manage complex issues, and elevate the Center’s research while centering people will be invaluable as we communicate with journalists, policymakers, partners, and other key audiences.”
Buckingham brings more than 20 years of communications, policy, and nonprofit experience to her new role. She holds a master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
“I’m thrilled to take on this new role at a time when CBPP’s unique combination of analysis, communications, and advocacy is more important than ever,” said Buckingham. “I look forward to continuing to empower the Center’s talented team of communicators and help the organization advance federal and state policies that build towards a nation where everyone has the resources they need to thrive.”
As CBPP’s new Vice President for Communications, Vaughn will lead the communications team and work with leaders across the organization to guide the Center’s use of strategic communications to shape the public debate and advance the organization’s policy goals.
“In many years of working closely with Michele, a through-line of her work has been ensuring that the Center’s analysis is as persuasive, accessible, and timely as possible to reach diverse audiences and maximize our impact on the policy debate,” said Shannon Buckingham. “Michele is a trusted thought partner, an intentional manager, and a collaborative colleague. I’m grateful to have her partnership in spearheading the organization’s communications efforts.”
Vaughn brings more than 20 years of editorial and communications experience to the new role. She received a master’s degree in Public Policy from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in Magazine Journalism and Public Policy from Syracuse University.
“I’m excited to step into a new role at CBPP and help make the Communications team the best it can be,” said Vaughn. “I’m honored to join the Center’s leadership team and help the organization continue to strengthen its communication and expand its public influence in the years to come.”
