This week at CBPP, we focused on the federal budget, health, and Social Security. We also announced new roles on our leadership team.

On the federal budget, Samantha Jacoby called on Congress to reject the Trump Administration’s attempt to weaken corporate minimum tax requirements and instead ensure large corporations pay their fair share.
On health, Symonne Singleton and Jennifer Wagner reviewed the vendor products being offered to help states implement new Medicaid work requirements while minimizing coverage loss. Claire Heyison explained how a proposed rule change for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would reduce marketplace enrollment by 2 million people in 2027 alone.
On Social Security, Kathleen Romig documented the Department of Government Efficiency’s egregious misuse of sensitive Social Security data, which it shared with a group seeking to overturn legitimate election results.

Samantha Waxman posted a thread to X and Bluesky on the Senate’s vote to block D.C. from making decisions about its own tax dollars.
Mikaela Tajo posted a thread to X and Bluesky tracking climate and environmental program cuts in the fiscal 2026 appropriations package.
Wesley Tharpe posted a thread to X and Bluesky highlighting states that have raised revenue to protect public services.
As part of a Valentine’s Day week of action in solidarity with immigrant communities, Shelby Gonzales posted a thread to X and Bluesky that features a personal letter to her parents and highlights the many ways people who are immigrants strengthen and shape our nation.
