This week at CBPP, we focused on the federal budget, Social Security, health, state budgets and taxes, and the economy.

On the federal budget, Chuck Marr and Josephine Cureton warned that the Trump Administration’s proposed cuts to non-defense research and development would reduce long-term growth in our economy and standard of living. CBPP updated a timeline of the implementation of the harmful Republican megabill.
On Social Security, Kathleen Romig and Devin O’Connor explained that the Administration abruptly cut off federal support for a highly effective intervention that helps disabled people experiencing or at risk of homelessness access disability benefits to help them stabilize their lives.
On health, Laura Harker noted that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has extended Georgia’s Medicaid waiver program, despite a Government Accountability Office report that raised cost concerns about the program’s work requirements.
On state budgets and taxes, Anna Phillips and Don Griswold asserted that states should close the “drop-kick” loopholes that let wealthy people dodge real estate transfer taxes.
On the economy, we updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment insurance are available in each state.
