In Case You Missed It. . .

Recently at CBPP, we focused on health, housing, and food assistance. 

• On health, Gideon Lukens and Elizabeth Zhang cautioned policymakers against Republican proposals to impose a per capita cap on federal Medicaid funding, which would force deep cuts and shift costs to states. Laura Guerra-Cardus and Kaylin Hewitt warned that state efforts to take Medicaid health coverage away from people are likely to resurface in 2025. Paul N. Van de Water explained why growth in Medicare Advantage plans raises concerns. We also updated our resource tracking states’ unwinding from Medicaid continuous coverage.
• On housing, Anna Bailey explained that the latest data on rising homelessness highlights the need to invest in proven solutions and reject policies that worsen homelessness and housing instability.
• On food assistance, Ty Jones Cox emphasized the $1.5 billion price low-income households will pay because Republican leaders in Congress abandoned a bipartisan agreement that would extend SNAP benefit theft protections, and instead allowed the protections to expire at the end of 2024.
