In Case You Missed It…

Recently at CBPP, we focused on food assistance, health, and state budgets and taxes.

• On food assistance, Ed Bolen explained why Congress should extend protections for households who have had their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits stolen. We also updated our SNAP backgrounder and chart book.

• On health, Allison Orris and Gideon Lukens examined threats to Medicaid in the upcoming Congress that would harm enrollees and increase health inequities. Orris and Claire Heyison updated their piece explaining that the Project 2025, Republican Study Committee, and House Budget Committee’s plans would make health coverage more costly and less comprehensive, increasing the number of people without health insurance. We also updated our resource tracking states’ unwinding from Medicaid continuous coverage.

• On state budgets and taxes, we updated our state tax cut tracker with an entry on how West Virginia is struggling to afford school security upgrades and other essentials in the wake of tax cuts for wealthy households.
