BEYOND THE NUMBERS
In Case You Missed It . . .
This week at CBPP, we focused on health, federal tax, and state budgets and taxes.
- On health, Gideon Lukens noted that health insurance costs will spike if premium tax credit enhancements are allowed to expire in 2025. Laura Harker detailed how Medicaid expansion benefits a wide range of groups, not just people who are newly Medicaid-eligible. We also updated our resource tracking states’ unwinding from Medicaid continuous coverage.
- On federal tax, Chuck Marr, Samantha Jacoby, and George Fenton underscored the failures of the 2017 Trump tax law’s pass-through deduction and advised policymakers against extending the provision next year.
- On state budgets and taxes, Joanna LeFebvre and Roxy Caines emphasized that states should partner with the IRS to participate in Direct File. LeFebvre also called on states to reverse course on defunding public education through school vouchers and property tax cuts.
