This week at CBPP, we focused on food assistance, housing, and health.

On food assistance, Katie Bergh and Lauren Hall warned that the looming WIC funding shortfall would jeopardize access to WIC’s proven benefits and disproportionately harm Black and Hispanic families. Hall also underscored that food insecurity increased in 2022, with a severe impact on households with children and ongoing racial inequities.
On housing, Sonya Acosta emphasized that the final appropriations package will need additional funding to avoid rental assistance cuts. Mari Castaldi and the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s (NLIHC) Matthew Clarke pointed to NLIHC’s updated database and new report with key information for state and local affordable housing programs.
On health, Jennifer Sullivan highlighted that the Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplace will open soon for 2024 enrollment and that new policies mean less red tape.
