November 19, 2021, 5:00 pm | By CBPP This week, CBPP President Sharon Parrott praised the House’s historic passage of Build Back Better (BBB) and urged the Senate to get it across the finish line without delay. Parrott also had a tweet thread noting how BBB’s Congressional Budget Office score confirms the bill’s fiscal soundness. This week we also focused on the federal budget and taxes, state budgets and taxes, housing, and the economy, often in the context of Build Back Better: On the federal budget and taxes, Chuck Marr argued that the Senate should improve the state and local tax provision in the House BBB bill. Samantha Jacoby highlighted how revenue from the bill’s IRS enforcement funding would support its investments. On state budgets and taxes, Ed Lazere detailed how the American Rescue Plan’s federal relief funds can be used to invest in non-police approaches to public safety. On housing, we noted how more housing vouchers are needed to help women and girls afford safe, stable homes. Sonya Acosta explained how investing in housing vouchers is critical to protecting children from hardship and to building a more equitable future. On the economy, we updated our chart book tracking the post-Great Recession economy.
