Wally Adeyemo Joins CBPP Board

Wally Adeyemo, former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and distinguished visiting fellow at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, has joined the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) Board of Directors, CBPP announced today. During his tenure at Treasury, Adeyemo served as Chief Operating Officer of the Department, played a leading role in implementing high-impact economic policies like the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act, which set the course for the nation’s recovery from the global pandemic. Adeyemo also led the agency’s efforts to modernize the IRS and on national security issues.

Wally Adeyemo Biography

Adeyemo served as the 15th Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and chief operating officer of the 100,000-employee department. Adeyemo played a leading role in Treasury’s national security and economic inequality work, and in implementing some of the department’s top policy priorities, including the modernization of the IRS.

Adeyemo was responsible for the Department’s use of economic tools in service of protecting U.S. national security, including financial sanctions and the work of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. He also oversaw Treasury’s implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act, which provided significant new investments in the economy, energy security, clean energy transition, and the modernization of both customer service and enforcement at the IRS.

Prior to that, Adeyemo served as President of the Barack Obama Foundation and as a senior advisor at BlackRock and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He also previously served as Deputy National Security Advisor for international economics and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council during the Obama Administration.
