The Senate is debating the farm bill, which authorizes SNAP (formerly the Food Stamp Program). As members of Congress consider SNAP’s future, they would do well to understand its role as this nation’s first line of defense against hunger. This video, made in 2007 to mark the 30th anniversary of landmark legislation that largely created today’s SNAP program, features interviews with two of the bill’s architects: Republican Senator Robert Dole and Democratic Senator George McGovern.
