SNAP (formerly food stamps) has gotten considerable public attention in recent weeks due to congressional debates over renewing the program. As members of Congress consider SNAP’s future, they would do well to understand its role as this nation’s first line of defense against hunger. This video, made in 2007 to mark the 30th anniversary of landmark legislation that largely created today’s SNAP program, features interviews with two of the bill’s architects: Republican Senator Robert Dole and Democratic Senator George McGovern.
