This week at CBPP, we focused on food assistance, the federal budget, housing, and state budgets.

On food assistance, Dottie Rosenbaum, Joseph Llobrera, Catlin Nchako, and Luis Nuñez released an interactive tracker showing how participation in SNAP has declined in every state after the harmful Republican megabill slashed program funding. Joseph Llobrera and Catlin Nchako highlighted that Arizona has seen a 47 percent drop in SNAP participation, meaning over 400,000 people lost food assistance in the last seven months.
On the federal budget, Brendan Duke explained why most workers in low-paying jobs will see little benefit from the harmful Republican megabill’s tip and overtime deductions. Samantha Jacoby pointed out three ways policy choices by the Trump Administration and congressional Republicans have made the tax system less effective and harder for filers to navigate. We also issued a technical note describing how we analyze non-defense discretionary funding.
On housing, Anna Bailey detailed how the Trump Administration is pursuing policies that make housing less affordable, while pressuring states and cities to punish people who are unhoused.
On state budgets, Wesley Tharpe pushed back on the misleading claims about interstate tax flight by analyzing new IRS data.
