In Case You Missed It…

This week at CBPP, we focused on health, food assistance, state budgets and taxes, and climate change.

• On health, Gideon Lukens underscored that the Trump Administration’s vague offers of cash fail to address the looming spike in health care costs for marketplace enrollees as premium tax credit enhancements are set to expire.
• On food assistance, Ty Jones Cox asserted that the Trump Administration’s attacks on SNAP and the people who use the program put them on the wrong side of history.
• On state budgets and taxes, Wesley Tharpe emphasized that states must prioritize revenue in their 2026 legislative sessions to support people and communities in the wake of the harmful Republican megabill. Jay Tomkus explained that states can protect Medicaid funding for eligible American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) enrollees, despite the megabill shifting costs to states.
• On climate change, Rachel Jacobson and Mikaela Tajo summarized Trump Administration actions weakening disaster preparation and response. Jacobson and Tajo also detailed how states should use funding available pre- and post-disaster to build long-term resilience to climate change.
