This week at CBPP, we focused on health, federal tax, Social Security, climate, housing and food assistance.

On health, Allie Gardner explained how Medicaid cuts would reduce access to health care for entire communities. Gideon Lukens described five reasons why lawmakers should reject expansions of health savings accounts.
On federal tax, Chuck Marr, Samantha Jacoby, and Kris Cox posed ten questions to illuminate House Republicans’ priorities in their upcoming tax bill and argued the bill should respond to the current economic moment and the uncertainty families face, including rising costs, increasing risks of job loss, and high uncertainty about their future financial stability.
On Social Security, Devin O’Connor and Kathleen Romig outlined why a new Trump Administration rule that makes it easier to fire nonpartisan career civil servants across the federal government would further politicize the Social Security Administration and undermine benefits.
On climate, Mikaela Tajo and Rachel Jacobson explained why the Trump Administration’s ongoing freeze of grants from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund threatens climate investments in vulnerable communities.
On housing, Urvi Patel, Mari Castaldi, and Anna Phillips warned policymakers that broad property tax cuts won’t provide relief to those most impacted by high housing costs — renters with low incomes.
On food assistance, Zoë Neuberger, Luis Nuñez, and Linnea Sallack updated their paper and state-by-state data describing enrollment in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and efforts states can take to make WIC accessible for more eligible families.
