This week at CBPP, we focused on Social Security, health, state budgets and taxes, and federal taxes.

On Social Security, Jacob Leibenluft, Devin O’Connor, and Kathleen Romig outlined the Trump Administration and DOGE activities that risk operations in the Social Security Administration and security of personal data.
On health, we released state-by-state fact sheets illustrating congressional Republicans’ Medicaid cuts that would shift costs to states, leaving people uninsured across the U.S.
On state budgets and taxes, Samantha Waxman emphasized that lawmakers in the House must adopt the Senate’s plan allowing D.C. to spend its own funds to return to a balanced budget. We also updated our state tax tracker with an entry on how existing tax cuts are hurting Oklahoma, and how proposed tax cuts could deepen the harm.
On federal taxes, Samantha Jacoby explained why Congress should end the pass-through tax break for millionaire business owners and instead extend a tax credit that helps small business owners buy health coverage.
We also updated our resource tracking harmful executive actions, with updates on qualifying immigrants forgoing needed benefits, especially housing benefits, out of fear, and DOGE’s targeting of the IRS.

Peggy Bailey posted on X and Bluesky highlighting an op-ed by Ann Oliva in Newsweek, which draws attention to the harmful actions being taken by the Trump Administration and Congress that could negatively impact millions of families and contribute to the rise in homelessness.
