This week at CBPP, we focused on the federal budget and health.
- On the federal budget, CBPP President Sharon Parrott explained that the House Republicans’ budget is an extreme giveaway to the wealthy at the expense of families who already have a hard time making ends meet. Parrott also cautioned that Senate Republicans’ opaque budget resolution lays a path for a future budget bill that could pay for increased military and homeland security spending with harmful policies that take food assistance and health coverage away from people who struggle to afford the basics and make college more expensive. Jacob Leibenluft stressed the risks of DOGE’s access to Treasury payment systems. David A. Super clarified that many of the Trump Administration’s fiscal and regulatory actions are unlawful.
- On health, Elizabeth Zhang summarized four reasons why lawmakers should reject per capita caps on Medicaid. Paul N. Van de Water updated his piece on misleading claims by policymakers that Medicaid is going bankrupt.
