BEYOND THE NUMBERS
In Case You Missed It . . .
This week at CBPP, we focused on state budgets and taxes, health, income security, and Social Security.
- On state budgets and taxes, we launched a new resource tracking the fallout of state tax cuts with entries about how income taxes cuts in West Virginia are threatening funding for important needs, how Mississippi’s credit downgrade warns all states about cutting taxes, and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s recent statement that tax cuts are causing the state’s revenue shortfall. Wesley Tharpe highlighted the new resource and summarized the effects of states' counterproductive fiscal policy decisions over the past few years.
- On health, Jennifer Wagner explained how states can use SNAP information to renew Medicaid eligibility as the “unwinding” of pandemic-era Medicaid continuous coverage protections nears its end.
- On income security, Diana Azevedo-McCaffrey and Tonanziht Aguas described how continued increases in TANF benefit levels are critical to helping families meet their needs and thrive.
- On Social Security, we updated our backgrounder listing ten key facts about the program.
