Derek Herr is the Senior Director of Financial Planning and Analysis. His career has spanned across several nonprofit organizations where he played a key role in advancing strategy and growth. For 13 years he worked for the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. As Senior Cost Analyst, he ensured smooth operations and account reconciliation during a merger and performed financial modeling for large-scale scientific research programs. Then as Controller, he spearheaded and developed efficient financial reporting tools and established best billing practices.

He also served as Director, Financial Reporting, Planning, and Analysis for the United Service Organizations. In this role, he conducted cross-department oversight for the annual budget and planning process. He also translated financial and budgeting data into concrete, strategic initiatives that helped to ensure full alignment between spending and fundraising activities and stated business goals.

Herr is a Certified Public Accountant. He has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Mathematics minor from Appalachian State University and a Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
