Cara Brumfield is the Vice President for Housing and Income Security. Prior to joining CBPP, Cara managed and provided strategic direction for the Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality’s research and policy agendas. Previously, Cara was the Director of the Public Benefits Justice team at the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP).

Cara completed her Master of Public Policy degree at American University and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Inequality and Identity from Lafayette College. She is a former Congressional Hunger Center Emerson National Hunger Fellow, PPIA Fellow, Posse Scholar, and a proud graduate of Head Start. Cara has deep experience applying a racial equity lens to economic justice issues. She understands the systems, policies, and programs that create and alleviate poverty — based on both her work and her own lived experiences. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Cara lives in Northwest Washington, D.C.
