Victoria Wachino

Health Policy Director

Former Staff

Wachino was formerly Health Policy Director for the Center through December of 2005. She oversaw the Center’s work at the federal and state levels on issues related to health care coverage, including Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, the uninsured, and Medicare’s role for low-income people.

Her particular area of expertise is the Medicaid program, especially how the financing of the program affects health care coverage.  In addition to her work in health policy, she also has broad expertise in federal and state budget issues.

Prior to joining the Center, Wachino served as Associate Director of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured.  She has worked at the White House Office of Management and Budget, where she served as a senior policy advisor to OMB leadership on a wide range of budgetary and legislative issues, after having started at OMB as a budget analyst for public health programs.  She has also worked on health care issues at the state and local level.  She holds an MPP from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and a BA from Mount Holyoke College.
