In Case You Missed It...
This week at CBPP, we focused on federal taxes, the federal budget, Social Security, health, housing, food assistance, and the economy.
- On federal taxes, Arloc Sherman, Chuck Marr, and Stephanie Hingtgen described how the earnings requirement would undermine the Child Tax Credit’s poverty-reducing impact while doing virtually nothing to boost parents’ employment.
- On the federal budget, Paul Van de Water explained why Congress must suspend or raise the debt limit.
- On Social Security, Kathleen Romig testified before the Senate Finance Committee on the case for updating and simplifying Supplemental Security Income.
- On health, Gideon Lukens pointed out how closing the coverage gap and making premium subsidies permanent could cover 7 million uninsured. Jennifer Sullivan described how states are using one-time funds to improve Medicaid home- and community-based services, but longer-term investments are needed.
- On housing, Will Fischer and Erik Gartland emphasized how housing vouchers in the economic recovery bill would sharply cut homelessness and housing instability and Gartland summarized the paper in a policy brief. Gartland highlighted how millions are still months behind on rent after the eviction moratorium ended.
