In Case You Missed It . . .
Recently at CBPP, we were excited to announce that Samantha Tweedy, Chief Executive Officer of the Black Economic Alliance, has joined our board of directors. We also focused on the federal budget, federal taxes, income security, state budgets and taxes, health, and the economy.
- On the federal budget, CBPP President Sharon Parrott issued a statement noting that congressional leaders’ agreement on a topline funding level for 2024 preserves reasonable funding levels, while also cautioning that IRS funding rescissions are harmful.
- On federal taxes, Parrott issued a statement on the reported proposed expansion of the Child Tax Credit. Chuck Marr emphasized that an expansion of the Child Tax Credit should prioritize cutting child poverty, and he tweeted about how the proposed expansion would benefit roughly 8 in 10 kids who are currently left out of receiving the full credit.
- On income security, Vicki Turetsky and Diana Azevedo-McCaffrey explained Temporary Assistance for Needy Families cost recovery in the child support program. Additionally, on both income security and state budgets and taxes, Aditi Shrivastava and Samantha Waxman highlighted momentum in the states for providing unrestricted income assistance to families.
- On health, we updated our resource tracking states’ unwinding from Medicaid continuous coverage.
- On the economy, we updated our chart book on the recovery from the pandemic recession.
