This week at CBPP, we focused on health, Social Security, food assistance, state budgets and taxes, and the economy.
- On health, Gideon Lukens stressed that health premiums will rise steeply for millions if the American Rescue Plan’s premium tax credits expire.
- On Social Security, Kathleen Romig emphasized that the upcoming retirement savings bill should improve financial security for low-income elderly and disabled people. Romig pointed out how budget cuts to the Social Security Administration (SSA) hurt the agency’s service in every state. She also urged policymakers to act to address SSA's customer service crisis.
- On food assistance, Katie Bergh described how states have an important opportunity to address child hunger this summer.
- On state budgets and taxes, we updated our backgrounder on the basics of state budgets.
