In Case You Missed It...
This week at CBPP, we focused on federal taxes, state budgets and taxes, health, and the economy.
- On federal taxes, Chuck Marr maintained that Congress should dramatically and permanently cut child poverty with an expanded Child Tax Credit. Marr also stressed that Congress should expand the Earned Income Tax Credit for adults without children, and he pointed out the urgent need for tax system reform and a rebuilding of the IRS. Bradley L. Hardy emphasized the Child Tax Credit's critical role in helping families maintain economic stability.
- On state budgets and taxes, Samantha Waxman explained that Massachusetts lawmakers should focus on building an equitable recovery instead of tax cuts that benefit the wealthy. Eric Figueroa and Iris Hinh noted that states can dismantle systemic barriers for immigrants by adopting inclusive policies that create paths to prosperity.
- On health, we updated our fact sheet summarizing federal government provisions that have expanded access to COVID-19 testing, vaccinations, and treatments.
- On the economy, George Fenton called on Congress to permanently strengthen economic and health security for front-line workers. We updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are currently available.
