Harmful Republican Megabill Fails Families, Children, and Communities
The harmful Republican megabill, enacted through budget reconciliation on July 4, takes food assistance and health care away from millions of people while showering ever larger tax breaks on the wealthiest households. The law achieves those cuts in large part by forcing families and individuals to bear higher costs and more red tape and by imposing substantial new costs on state and local governments that will be hard for them to shoulder even when times are good, let alone when finances are under strain. Ultimately those costs — and harms — will be borne by parents, children, veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, immigrants, and others across every community in every state.
