In Case You Missed It...
This week at CBPP, we focused on governance, health, and the economy.
- On governance, Sam Berger, Jacob Leibenluft, and Devin O’Connor urged Congress to permanently block the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) grantmaking rule that would upend and politicize the federal grantmaking process.
- On health, we updated our health coverage tracker with the latest data estimating that 2.2 million people lost Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage between December 2025 and February 2026 and millions more have seen their cost of coverage rise, as harmful 2025 Republican policy changes take effect.
- On the economy, we updated our policy basics on unemployment compensation, which outlines the number of weeks of unemployment benefits workers are eligible for in each state.
Chart of the Week — The Trump Administration's Assault on Federal Grantmaking
The Center was active on social media this week. Here are some highlights:
- Sharon Parrott posted a thread to X and Bluesky on the Trump Administration’s illegal “pocket rescission” impoundment that would cancel over $800 million in federal funding for programs that support refugees and initiatives that address racial and gender inequity.
- Katie Bergh posted a thread to X and Bluesky on new data estimating that more than 5 million people, including about 2 million children, have lost SNAP food assistance following last year’s harmful 2025 Republican reconciliation law.
- Shelby Gonzales posted a thread to X and Bluesky on new restrictions to Medicaid and CHIP programs that take away health care from those granted humanitarian immigration protections, which includes refugees, people granted asylum, and survivors of trafficking.
- Gbenga Ajilore posted a thread to X and Bluesky analyzing September’s jobs report.
