BEYOND THE NUMBERS
In Case You Missed It...
This week at CBPP, we focused on the federal budget, housing, income security, food assistance, and health.
- On the federal budget, we updated our roundup of analyses on House Republicans’ harmful debt-ceiling-and-cuts bill. Sharon Parrott tweeted about the need to protect people who can’t afford food, rent, or health care from House Republican efforts to make them pawns in their debt ceiling scheme.
- On housing, Sonya Acosta explained that the House Republican bill would force deep cuts in housing assistance, harming families, older adults, and people with disabilities.
- On income security, Aditi Shrivastava tweeted about how the TANF proposal in the House Republican bill would not save money or cut deficits. Diana Azevedo-McCaffrey tweeted about the health benefits of TANF for families and their children, and about new data showing that more children would be pushed into deep poverty if their families lose TANF. Peggy Bailey tweeted about the racist history of TANF’s work requirements.
- On food assistance, Ty Jones Cox tweeted about Republicans’ proposal to take away food assistance from more than 700,000 people. We also relaunched a series of videos highlighting low-paid workers Tim Keefe, Liz Duncan, Brian Strouse, and Mike Scott, who spoke about how SNAP’s three-month time limit affected them.
- On health, we added a new entry to our resource tracking the Medicaid continuous coverage unwinding.
