This week at CBPP, we focused on state budgets and taxes, food assistance, health, poverty and inequality, and the federal budget.

On state budgets and taxes, Wesley Tharpe and Meg Wiehe explained how key congressional Republicans’ plans to shift large costs to states would weaken public services and inflict widespread harm.
On food assistance, we summarized how Republican policy proposals would take away or reduce food assistance from tens of millions of people who need it to afford groceries. Joseph Llobrera explained how conditioning food assistance on meeting a work requirement threatens the food security of millions of workers and people between jobs.
On health, we summarized how Republican policy proposals could take away health care or make it less affordable for millions of people.
On poverty and inequality, Arloc Sherman highlighted a major study detailing how young adults shift focus from work to higher education with stronger income support.
On the federal budget, Richard Kogan explained how CBPP’s ten-year budget baseline differs from the Congressional Budget Office’s baseline. We also updated our backgrounder explaining where our federal tax dollars go.
