Kris Cox is Director of Federal Tax Policy with the Center's Federal Fiscal Policy division. She works to advance equitable federal tax and budget policies, with a focus on refundable tax credits and reducing racial and ethnic income disparities. Her work has been cited by Bloomberg, The Financial Times, and other publications, as well as on NPR and other outlets. In this role, she also works closely with the Senior VP for Federal Fiscal Policy to co-lead internal team work planning, hiring, and overall team management.

Cox brings over 15 years of experience in data-driven policy and research domestically and internationally. Prior to joining the Center, she served as a Regional Director for Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), providing management and research oversight to country offices across West, East, and Southern Africa. She also established IPA's office in Rwanda, where she worked closely with policymakers, non-governmental partners, and leading academic researchers to evaluate the impact of social programs across a variety of sectors. 

Cox previously worked at CBPP on Federal Fiscal Policy with a focus on the federal budget, the appropriations process, and the long-term fiscal outlook. She holds a Master in Public Policy degree from the Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and History from the University of Virginia.
