This week at CBPP, we focused on the impacts of the House Republican reconciliation plan.

CBPP President Sharon Parrott underscored how the reconciliation bill passed by House Republicans fails the people they promised to help — and why the Senate must reject it.
On health, we explained that the House reconciliation bill would take health coverage away from millions of people and dramatically raise health care costs for millions more. Allison Orris, Jennifer Sullivan, Claire Heyison, and Shelby Gonzales examined five ways the House Republican bill would take away health coverage and raise people’s costs. Gonzales, Gideon Lukens, and Elizabeth Zhang noted that a new proposal from the House Rules Committee would cut Medicaid funding to states that cover lawfully present children and pregnant adults.
On federal taxes, we detailed the impacts of the bill’s huge tax breaks to wealthy individuals, businesses, and large corporations that leave behind or raise costs for millions of working families. Chuck Marr, Samantha Jacoby, Kris Cox, Gideon Lukens, and Stephanie Hingtgen emphasized that House Republicans’ tax bill doubles down on the failures of the 2017 tax law while leaving working families behind.
On food assistance, we explained that the bill would dramatically raise costs and reduce food assistance for many millions of people by cutting federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by about 30 percent.
