Areas of Expertise:
Diana Azevedo-McCaffrey is a Senior Policy Analyst on the Housing and Income Security team. Her work focuses on policy strategies to direct more income assistance to families experiencing poverty and other hardships. Diana strives to promote policy change that centers people’s dignity and autonomy, and counters systemic racism and sexism historically rooted in social policy. She is passionate about working collaboratively with advocates across states and different movements to build power and advance change.
Diana’s portfolio includes the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program and child support policy at the intersection of TANF and other public benefits. Other areas of work include the intersection of public benefits and reproductive justice, such as advocating against fetal personhood measures in public benefits and the usage of TANF dollars toward anti-abortion centers. She is also passionate about income supports for survivors of domestic violence and improving the accessibility and effectiveness of the TANF program to meet the needs of survivors and their families.
Before joining the Center, she worked at the Gender and Public Policy Department at Columbia University, the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women as a Public Policy Fellow, and Reproductive Freedom for All. Diana holds a master’s degree in Social Policy and Gender and Public Policy from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, and a B.A. in Sociology and English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley.
