Deputy Director, State Policy Research
Wesley Tharpe is Deputy Director of State Policy Research at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. In this role, he helps lead a team of analysts in the Center’s State Fiscal Project and conducts research on a range of state tax, budget, and economic policies.
Prior to joining the Center in 2018, Tharpe served as Research Director at the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, where he coordinated the organization’s research agenda and for seven years analyzed a diverse set of issues including tax reform, jobs and wages, immigrant inclusion, and state budget trends. A native of Fayetteville, Georgia, Tharpe holds a B.A. in political science and international affairs from the University of Georgia and an M.A. in public policy from the Johns Hopkins University.
