Media Advisory: School Investments Still Way Down in Some States

With:

Michael Leachman
Director of State Fiscal Research, CBPP

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities will hold a conference call briefing for journalists on Wednesday, October 19 at 12:00 PM ET to discuss a new report that looks at how public investment in K-12 schools — which is crucial for communities to thrive — has declined dramatically in a number of states in recent years.

Michael Leachman, lead author of the report, and Director of State Fiscal Research at the Center will discuss:

  • the report’s state-by-state data on the depth of cuts to K-12 education;
  • the significant number of states that are providing less funding for K-12 schools and cut income tax rates
  • the damaging impact the cuts to K-12 education have on students and teachers
  • and the effect of declining investment in K-12 education on states’ future economic growth.

Q&A will follow the presentation.

To participate in the briefing, please register by e-mailing [email protected], or calling the Center’s communications office at (202) 408-1080.

The report, will be available to media under embargo on Monday October 17. The report— as well as the contents of the briefing — will remain under embargo until 12:01 a.m. (ET) on Thursday October 20.
