Brandale graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2007 with a B.A. in Print Journalism and will complete her Master’s in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Howard University in December. Prior to joining the Center, Brandale interned for United States Senator Jeff Bingaman in his Albuquerque office and as a public affairs intern at Edelman Public Relations.

Clara Reyes, Health Policy

Clara Reyes is an intern in the Health Policy Division. Various experiences developed Clara’s interest in health policy including spending a summer at a clinic in Chía, Colombia, volunteering at the clinic of the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Boston, MA, and taking an international health policy class at Boston University’s School of Public Health. She graduated from Boston University in May 2008 with a B.A. in International Relations and hopes to pursue a degree in Public Health and/or Medicine.
Eric Tao, DCFPI
Eric Tao is a junior at Cornell University double majoring in Economics and China and Asia-Pacific Studies. He is spending the fall semester in Washington DC for the Cornell in Washington program focusing on public policy. Prior to joining the Center, Eric was a research assistant at Cornell University for the School of Applied Economics and Management where he studied carbon-offset trading and microfinance. Eric has also interned for Valley National Bancorp in the project management division. Eric plans to pursue a career in an economic or finance related field dealing with the Asia-Pacific region.
Hannah Shaw, Federal Fiscal Policy
Hannah is an intern with the Federal Budget and Fiscal Policy team. She graduated from Tufts University with a BA in History and Economics. Prior to joining the Center, Hannah spent a year interning at Parliament, working for Adrian Sanders MP.
Joe Valenti, State Fiscal Policy
Joe Valenti is a first-year Master of Public Policy student at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute with research interests in social and regulatory policy. He is also the Online Senior Editor for Economics and Finance at the Georgetown Public Policy Review. Prior to joining the Center, Joe held various research and policy positions at the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs and the Aspen Institute working on financial access issues for low-income households. He received a B.A. in political science from Columbia University in 2005.
Jose Balmori, Welfare Reform and Income Support
Jose, a native of the south of Mexico, is a senior at the University of Texas – Pan American where he is double majoring in Economics and Mathematics with a minor in Political Science. He was an active member of four campus organizations, including Student Government Association, National Hispanic Professional Organization, SIFE, and the Leadership Academy. In addition, Jose is a member of the Honors Program and the Student Leadership Program. Jose has worked at the Institute for Population Health Policy under the supervision of Dr. Jose Pagan, one of the leading health economists in Texas, for the past two years. After graduating in December, Jose plans to conduct research on income distribution in Brazil and to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics or Finance.
Preethi Raghavan, Fundraising & Development
Preethi Raghavan is an intern in the Fundraising & Development department. She graduated from the University of Michigan in August 2007 with a B.A. in Economics and Brain, Behavior, & Cognitive Science. Prior to joining the Center, Preethi interned at the British Parliament for Member of Parliament, Dawn Butler where she spearheaded the Safer Stations Petition. Preethi also interned at the Healthy Schools Campaign in Chicago and eventually plans to pursue graduate studies in public policy.

Rachel Blanchard, Housing
Rachel recently completed her Masters degree in Social Policy from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice. She also holds a BA in Anthropology from Indiana University in Indianapolis. For the past several years Rachel has focused her studies on issues related to low-income housing and homelessness. Before coming to the Center, Rachel worked as an intern in The Urban Institute’s Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center.

Sashwata Goswami, FBI and Legislative
Sash is an intern in the Federal Budget Initiative and Legislative departments. He is currently a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, pursuing a double degree in Government & Politics and German. He is a Founding Father of the Omega Theta chapter of the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi at Maryland, is an assistant captain on the UMD club-ice hockey team, and is a teaching assistant for a Business Marketing Principles and Organization class. Before coming to the Center, Sash interned at both Environment Maryland, and the National Regulatory Research Institute. After graduation in the spring, he plans to travel for a year before going to law school to pursue a degree in intellectual property and space law.
