The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is a high-caliber, strategic policy organization that informs and shapes public policies to reduce poverty, promote equity, and build opportunity, on both the federal and state levels. To advance these goals in the states, the Center co-founded and continues to coordinate and convene the State Priorities Partnership.
The State Priorities Partnership is the nation’s leading network of state policy organizations working to advance racial, social, and economic equity to build broad prosperity and thriving state economies. The Center’s state team of almost 40 staff works directly with member organizations, the Steering Committee of Partnership directors, and the Partnership’s National Funding Collaborative to implement a shared vision for the network — from cultivating collaboration across state lines to distributing millions of grant dollars. In 2017 we provided technical and other assistance more than 4,000 times and traveled more than 130,000 miles to meet with Partnership staffers around the country. Together the Partnership fields a team of almost 300 staff backed by a combined budget of $30 million. At the heart of these efforts is a constant cycle of learning, experimentation, and sharing across state borders, led by the Director of Network Learning and Collaboration for the State Priorities Partnership.
The Director of Network Learning and Collaboration coordinates a small team of staff and consultants that develops and implements ways to identify and accelerate shared learnings and best practices across the network, advances a culture of equity and inclusion, collects stories and data that document the Partnership’s combined impact, and communicates that success to the philanthropic community.
The Director of Network Learning and Collaboration is responsible for:
- Designing and implementing convenings, trainings, and technology platforms to accelerate the sharing of best practices, lessons learned, and successes across the Partnership, including strategies to support racial and gender equity, inclusion, and diversity;
- Designing and managing data collection and analysis strategies — including both quantitative surveys and qualitative narratives — to evaluate the Partnership’s impact and communicate that impact to Partnership members, funders, and other key stakeholders;
- Staffing the Partnership steering committee’s activities, including developing network strategy and developing and guiding other network advisory committees and working groups;
- Effectively managing a small team of staff and consultants to advance the goals described above.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- At least eight years of relevant work experience in communications, evaluation, development, nonprofit networks, or related fields.
- Knowledge of and passion for reducing poverty and racial inequities, building opportunity, and state-based policy change.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate about complex policy issues in easily accessible language across a variety of media.
- Superlative stakeholder management skills, including deep experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects from conceptualization to implementation.
- An understanding of the role that racial inequity plays in our society and institutions, and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage and collaborate across difference.
- Regular travel (up to 25%) is required.
