The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is one of the nation’s leading non-profits working on public policy issues affecting low-income families and individuals. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the federal and state levels, and shaping public policies to reduce poverty, promote equity, and build opportunity. It works on budget and tax policy, health care, social insurance, and a range of programs important to low-income people. The Center’s funding comes from private foundations and individuals.

The Center seeks a writing associate or writer/editor to join the Center’s Development Department.

This position provides an opportunity for an early-career talented writer to help the Center meet its fundraising goals while learning about its policy, communications, advocacy, and development work. The writer must be able to distill complex policy information and the Center’s role in influencing policy decisions into clear, compelling, and easily understandable proposals, reports, donor communications, and other materials that help a range of stakeholders understand the work of the organization. The writer will work closely with the program staff to understand the issues and the Center’s current and future work. They will also edit development documents drafted by others and participate in executing the organization’s fundraising strategy. The writer will report to the Director of Foundation Giving, collaborate with executive and senior policy leadership, and be a part of a nine-person development team responsible for raising the Center’s budget.
