In Case You Missed It...

| By CBPP

This week at CBPP, we focused on food assistance, the federal budget, federal taxes, state budgets and taxes, health, housing, Social Security, and the economy.

  • On food assistance, Dottie Rosenbaum and Zoë Neuberger reported that the President’s 2021 budget would cut food assistance for millions and radically restructure SNAP. We developed an infographic outlining the President’s plans to cut food assistance and access to school meals. Neuberger outlined how WIC agencies can simplify their certification practices to reach more eligible families.

  • On the federal budget, Ife Floyd described how the President’s budget would cut Temporary Assistance for Needy Families by $21 billion and impose harmful spending restrictions. We compiled a roundup of our analyses of the 2021 Trump budget proposals.

  • On federal taxes, Janne Huang listed resources to help gig workers understand their taxes.

  • On state budgets and taxes, Wesley Tharpe urged Georgia lawmakers to reject two risky tax plans to avoid harming essential services and the families they serve.

  • On health, we updated our explainer showing that the Administration’s stance in the suit to repeal the Affordable Care Act is in line with its health care agenda.

  • On housing, Douglas Rice highlighted how the President’s budget exposes the Administration’s empty rhetoric on homelessness and fair housing.

  • On Social Security, we updated our report showing that Social Security lifts more Americans above the poverty line than any other program.

  • On the economy, we updated our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are available.
