This week at CBPP, we focused on health, housing, federal tax, state budgets and taxes, Social Security, and the economy.

On health, we pointed to CBPP President Robert Greenstein’s op-ed in The Hill outlining core principles for policymakers as they consider their next moves on health care.
On housing, Douglas Rice explained that while the Senate’s 2018 funding bill for the Departments of Transportation and of Housing and Urban Development boosts rental assistance for low-income households, the increase may not be enough to keep pace with rising rents. Alicia Mazzara reported that Housing Choice Vouchers strengthen families and communities in every state, as our updated fact sheets show.
On federal tax, Chloe Cho noted that Senator Jeff Flake busted estate tax myths in a recent interview.
On state budgets and taxes, Elizabeth McNichol explained why it’s a good time for states to take the lead in infrastructure investments. Samantha Waxman highlighted gains in state earned income tax credits.
On Social Security, Paul Van de Water and Kathy Ruffing detailed the program’s modest benefits. We updated our backgrounder on the top ten facts about Social Security.
On the economy, we updated our chartbook on the legacy of the Great Recession.
